I’ll admit Mary Queen of Scots wasn’t high on my list of films to see in 2019, and throughout the first act I was thinking to myself that it seemed like an average historical drama with some admittedly strange editing choices here and there.
Luckily for me, the second act was solid and then the film reaches an absolute crescendo with Saroise Ronan & Margot Robbie giving absolute masterful performances with a massive amount of emotion and stunning filmmaking.
This film is really all about the performances, apart from some of the side characters I genuinely enjoyed the acting throughout , and even got a bit of a chuckle when I realised David Tennant was in this.
Of course as I said before Ronan & Robbie really steal the show here, one thing to note is that the trailer I thought portrayed it more as two leading parts when in reality Ronan’s Mary is much more featured here by far (as the title suggests)
In the end Mary Queen of Scots packs a bit of an emotional punch and the third act elevates the rest of the film.
Thanks to Universal Pictures Australia for the invite!
