Daniel Isn’t Real is one of many films that really didn’t grab my interest as a must see release but as I sat and watched I slowly grew quite fond of this really interesting psychological horror thriller which honestly managed to surprise me.
Adam Egypt Mortimer’s direction feels very confident and not afraid of unconventional surreal imagery, which to be honest is completely my shit. Although the film feels fairly low budget, Daniel Isn’t Real leverages this facade in quite a successful way as there is a lot more going on here than you may first think.
Keeping the horror elements to a minimum really helps the film by making the occasional bursts pack much more of a punch.
I don’t really want to spoil the film so I’ll keep this short and sharp, Daniel Isn’t Real started off not really interesting me but by the halfway mark I was completely invested, definitely recommended this film and thanks to FANGORIA x MONSTER FEST 2019 for the Screener.
You can catch Daniel Isn’t Real at Monster Fest 2019 this weekend all around Australia!
